4th “Trek” Adventure Announced
Paramount Pictures has already announced a fourth Star Trek film – even before the release of its upcoming Star Trek: Beyond.
Chris Hemsworth will return to play George Kirk – the father of Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) – who appeared during the opening moments of the first film. In a press release, Paramount hints that George will have a major role in the next adventure.
According to the release, Pine’s Kirk has constantly been haunted by his father’s legacy – even though he never met him.
JJ Abrams, who directed the first Trek re-boot, will co-produce via his company, Bad Robot Productions.
By making this announcement, the studio is clearly expecting Star Trek: Beyond
– released this weekend – to warp up some serious box office bucks before embarking on its next voyage to the Final Frontier.
In the meantime, a new Star Trek TV series is slated to premier on CBS in 2017. The network, as part of a special promotion, will air the first episode on television before moving the series to CBS All Access – the network’s pay streaming service. Showrunner will be Hannibal and Pushing Daisies’ Bryan Fuller.
