“Annihilation” May Be Next For “Ex Machina” Director
Alex Garland, the writer / director of Ex Machina, had been approach to direct Paramount Pictures’ Annihilation – a futuristic gothic horror film.
The story, part one of a trilogy written by Jeff VanderMeer, revolves around a biologist who is investigating the disappearance of her husband.
Together with an anthropologist, psychologist and surveyor, she sets out to Area X – an area shich has been abandoned and isolated from the rest of the world. They are the twelfth expedition to venture into this territory. Mental trauma, cancers and mysterious disappearances have plagued previous expeditions.
Garland previously scripted 28 Days Later, Dredd, Sunshine and the 1996 Leonardo De Caprio starrer The Beach. Ex Machina, which stars Domhnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander, is his directorial debut. Release date is set for April 10 2015.
