“Attack The Block” Director To Helm Brit Thriller
Looks like Joe Cornish, the filmmaker behind 2011’s Attack the Block, will direct Universal Pictures’ Section 6.
The script concerns the formation of MI 6, the UK’s secret intelligence agency, and its first director Sir George Mansfield Cummings.
Interestingly, Cummings, The Wrap says, serves as inspiration for M in the James Bond stories.
Jack O’ Connell has signed on to star in the movie, while a number of A list stars, according to The Wrap, have expressed interest in portraying Cummings.
Universal, which won the script in an intense bidding war last year, is hoping Section 6 will be the start of a brand new franchise. The studio especially has faith in O’Connell, who played Olympic runner Louis Zamperini in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. That movie, which is currently slated for a December 25 release, shows how Zamperini was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War 11.
Section 6‘s script has been developed by Aaron Berg and Lawrence Grey, who is producing the film alongside Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Nira Park.
Cornish is one of the writers of Ant-Man, slated for relase in 2015.
