“Blair Witch” Star Visits “Bates Motel”
Joshua Leonard, star of 1999’s massive horror hit The Blair Witch Project, is checking in to Bates Motel for its third season.
TV Line reports Leonard will play James Finnegan, a local college psychology professor, who is drawn towards Norman Bates’ mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga).
Bates Motel marks the second time that Farmiga and Leonard have worked together. They previously played husband and wife in Higher Ground, a 2011 indie directed by Farmiga.
Directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, The Blair Witch Project starred Leonard as one of three student filmmakers who, in 1994, ventured into some very creepy woods located near Burkittsville, Maryland. Their goal was to make a documentary about the Blair Witch, a local legend.
The students were never seen or heard from again, but about a year after their disappearance camera and sound equipment, along with footage of their ordeal in the woods, was discovered. It’s this footage which makes up The Blair Witch Project.
The film grossed more than $248 million at the international box office, and became one of the most successful indie horror movies ever made.
