Downey May Join Captain America 3
Robert Downey Jr. is currently in negotiations to join Captain America 3. If that happens he’ll get to play Iron Man at least one more time.
At this time, Marvel Studios haven’t officially announced an Iron Man 4, but that’s not to say it won’t take place.
Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed Captain America: Winter soldier, will do the same honours with the third Captain America chapter.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, which picked up the story from Variety, Downey stands to rake in a walloping $40 million on the backend alone if this project moves forward. He apparently made over $50 million for his involvement with the first Avengers chapter.
Inside sources, says the article, have apparently hinted that the storyline could be a big screen adaptation of Marvel’s Civil War miniseries, which ran from 2006 to 2007. In that universe, Captain America and Iron Man are pitted against one another – thanks to a superhero registration act passed by the US government. Captain America opposes the act, and has a falling out with Tony Stark, Iron Man’s alter ego. As events unfold, Captain America forms an underground movement which puts one half of the Marvel world against the other.
