All Female “Ghostbusters” In The Works
Who you gonna call? The new all female cast of the Ghostbusters reboot. That’s who.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Melissa McCarthy has signed up for the project, to be directed by Paul Feig.
The publication also reports that Saturday Night Live’s Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, as well as Kristen Wiig, are currently in talks to star as the titular spook busters.
Feig previously directed McCarthy and Wiig in Bridesmaids – a 2011 romantic comedy that launched both actresses to stardom.
Katie Dippold and Feig are both scripting the new Ghostbusters, which is currently due to start shooting in New York this summer.
Ivan Reitman directed the Ghostbusters , released in 1984, which starred Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Sigourney Weaver.
The film spawned a sequel, TV series and video game.
A new addition to the franchise has been in the pipeline for some time. Sony Pictures originally wanted to reunite the original cast, but that idea hasn’t advanced any further since Ramis’ death last February.
Reitman will serve as executive producer.
