J. Lo To Play Drug Baron
Jennifer Lopez will play drug lord Griselda Blanco in a currently untitled movie for HBO.
According to Variety, the film is currently in development.
Blano was essentially a female version of Tony Montana, the infamous fictional drug baron played by Al Pacino in Brian De Palma’s Scarface.
Known as The Cocaine Godmother, the Colombian born Blanco practically ruled Miami during the ‘70s and ’80 – thanks to her ability to order dozens of executions – and eventually became the most powerful female cartel member.
In 2012, she was fatally shot in the head by a motorcycle riding hitman as she left a butcher’s shop. Ironically, she had previously been credited with inventing the concept of a hitman on a motorcycle.
Besides starring in the film, Lopez, through her Nuyorican Productions label, is also serving as executive producer.
Lopez is currently starring as Detective Harlee Santos, a corrupt police officer forced to work alongside the FBI’s anti-corruption task force – in NBC’s Shades of Blue. The series, which has been renewed for a second season, also stars Ray Liotta as a corrupt precinct commander and the target of the FBI sting.
