Jason Bateman In Watergate Thriller
Jason Bateman has signed joined Felt – Peter Landesman’s “Deep Throat” thriller.
Bateman is set to portray Charlie Bates – an FBI agent who learns that FBI director Mark Felt is leaking classified documents pertaining to the investigation of Watergate – the infamous 1972 break in of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C.
Liam Neeson is playing Felt – aka “Deep Throat ” – the informant who blew the whistle on Watergate. For more than 30 years, his true identity remained a mystery, but Felt, in 2005, came forward and admitted that he was indeed the man responsible for leaking Watergate to the press. Felt died in 2008.
It was Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward – reporters for The Washington Post – who broke the story, which led straight to the White House, and forced President Richard Nixon to resign from office.
Landesman, who is sitting in the director’s chair, also serves as scriptwriter and producer. Tom Hanks, Ridley Scott and Jay Roach are among the film’s producers. MadRiver Productions is financing and producing the film, alongside Scott’s Scott Free Productions, Playtone and Cara Films.
Cameras start rolling March 2016.
