Kathryn Bigelow And Tom Hardy Team For “The True American”
Revolving around Mark Stroman, an “American terrorist” who murdered two immigrants during the days immediately following 9/11, The True American – based on Anand Giridharadas’ non- fiction best-seller, will be the second collaboration between award winning director Kathryn Bigelow and Annapurna Pictures, the company that produced her Oscar winning hit Zero Dark Thirty.
Tom Hardy, most recently seen in the brilliant indie pic Locke, is set to star in the film, which will also be produced by Bigelow through her production company First Light.
Stroman was finally executed in Texas in 2011. His plea for clemency was backed by Raisuddin Bhuiya, a Bangladesh Air Force veteran who survived being shot by Stroman. Bhuiyan had insisted that executing Stroman was “not the solution.”
Seconds before his execution by lethal injection, Stroman, who wanted to kill Muslims in revenge for the 9/11 attacks, said he was a “total peace.”
“God bless America. God bless everyone,” he said. “Let’s do this damn thing.”
