Levitt May Play Snowdon in Stone Pic
Director Oliver Stone is apparently hoping that Joseph Gordon Levitt will play Edward Snowdon in a movie about the former CIA system administrator who leaked highly classified documents from the NSA (National Security Agency) in June 2013.
Although Levitt’s involvement hasn’t been officially confirmed to date, the movie about Snowden, who has sought asylum in Russia, is slated to begin shooting in Munich this December.
According to Deadline, Stone and producer Moritz Berman have a deal with Anatoly Kucherena, Snowdon’s Russian Lawyer, for film rights to Snowdon’s novel Time of The Octopus, the story of the leaker’s flight to Russia and the communication between Snowdon and his lawyer while the Russian authorities considered his request for asylum in their country.
Snowdon has leaked the most classified documents since Daniel Elsberg released The Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War.
Levitt was most recently seen in the box office disaster Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. He plays Philip Petit in The Walk, currently earmarked for an October 2015 release, director Robert Zemeckis’ telling of Petit’s attempt to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974.
The actor is also shooting a currently untitled project about a group of childhood pals who team up again on Christmas Eve. That movie also stars Seth Rogan and Lizzy Caplan.
