Lin Shaye Proclaimed “Godmother of Horror”
Wizard World, an entertainment and event company, has named actress Lin Shaye, the “Godmother of Horror” at the recent Wizard World Comic Con in Philadelphia.
Aside from the Insidious franchise, in which she plays psychic Elise Rainier, she has also appeared in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and Snakes on a Plane.
Insidious: Chapter 3, which reveals how Elise tried to save a young woman from demonic possession, is due out on June 5.
“I’m kind of the unlikely hero. I’m not the hot young guy or the gorgeous girl. I love the character, and so do the fans. I have a really youthful fan base, which is so much fun for me because I’m so old. I am the happiest I’ve ever been in my entire life.”
Horror and movie buff Aaron Sagers presented Shaye with the award during a special Wizard World presentation.
“Honoring Lin Shaye as the Godmother of Horror was a no-brainer as we celebrate Wizard World Comic Con Philadelphia this Mother’s Day weekend,” said Wizard World spokesman Jerry Milani. “Lin’s legacy in films of all genres make her queen of the movie scene, and her unparalleled, haunting performances in so many movies, especially the Insidious franchise, make her the obvious and deserved choice for the Godmother of Horror Award.”
Written and directed by Leigh Whannell, who co-created the fanchise, the latest Insidious chapter unfolds years before the haunting of the Lamberts – the family of the first two movies.
This time around, Elise is trying to help Quinn Brenner (Stefani Scott), who senses that her dead mother is trying to contact her. Intially, Elise is reluctant to use her psychic powers, due to a past trauma, but when Quinn is involved in an accident, she is attacked by a malevolent entity. Her widowed father (Dermot Mulroney) urgently appeals to Elise for help. Summoning her powers, she contacts the dead and encounters a demon with a craving for human souls – the most ruthless enemy she has ever encountered to date.
