Long Planned “Baywatch” Movie May Have Director
Baywatch, the show which turned Pamela Anderson into a huge star, may be coming to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seth Gordon is currently in talks to helm a theatrical version of the series about California lifeguards.
Dwayne Johnson is attached to the project, which has apparently been in development since 2004. Various writers – have come and gone over the years, but producers Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman believe they nearly have it nailed. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have written the latest draft.
Gordon is the director of Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, as well as TV’s The Goldbergs.
Earlier reports have suggested that Baywatch could take the comedic route – even though the original series was not intentionally a comedy. In fact, Johnson posted an image of himself on Instagram , aboard a jet ski, and announced:
“This is my beach bitch!” Rumors are true… we’re making #BAYWATCH the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach.”
Aside from Anderson, the weekly syndicated show starred David Hasselhoff, Yasmine Bleeth, Carmen Electra and David Chokachi.
The story, which could enter production early 2016, concerns a veteran lifeguard (Johnson) who teams up with a young hothead to prevent an oil tycoon from inflicting environmental destruction upon their beach.
