Matthew McConaughey May Star In “Dark Tower” Adaptation
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew McConaughey currently has his eyes set on a big screen version of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series of novels.
Nothing is set in stone, but the publication has received word that the actor is interested in taking on the project. Nikolaj Arcel is directing the movie, which could become a theatrical and TV franchise for Sony Pictures.
Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are among the film’s producers, who have been trying to get The Dark Tower onto the big screen for the past ten years.
Set in an alternate world rife with witches, wizards and magic, the fantasy centers around Roland Deschain, a gunslinger who sets out to find the Tower of the title.
McConaughey’s character could be the Man in Black – a supernatural being – who has also appeared in a number of King’s non-Dark Tower novels – determined to prevent Roland from reaching the Tower.
