Possible “Independence Day 2” Plans In Development
Jeff Goldblum may not be hunting down genetic dinosaurs in the next installment of Jurassic Park, but he could be battling nasty aliens again in the long awaited sequel to Independence Day.
Nothing is set in stone at this time, but Goldblum, in a recent interview with Time, revealed that director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin told him there’s a role for him in the sequel.
“I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon,” Goldblum told the magazine.
Goldblum also acknowledged that previous rumours of a sequel are “nebulous” until something is officially confirmed.
“They’re still talking about it and I’ve heard recent rumblings here and there about it, and “Oh, there’s a scripting coming in” — maybe last weekend there was a script handed in, so it’s brewing.”
Also known as ID4, the original Independence Day, which concerned a massive alien invasion of earth, also starred Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Mary McDonnell, Vivica A. Fox and Randy Quaid among others.
The film was released on July 3, 1996, and went on to gross more than $817 million at the worldwide box office.
A sequel to Independence Day has been swirling about the rumor mill for over ten years, but nothing has ever been officially confirmed to date.
