Sony To Reboot Angels
Charlie’s Angels may be headed back to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter and Yahoo are reporting that Sony Pictures is rebooting the story of three young ladies who quit the police academy to work for a private investigation company run by the mysterious Charlie. Elizabeth Banks has signed on to direct. No word yet on who will be playing the three ladies, but we’ll definitely keep you informed.
The original ABC series, which aired from 1976 to 1981, starred Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson and the late Farrah Fawcett as the three young ladies. John Forsythe, who would later go on to star as Blake Carrington in TV’s Dynasty, voiced Charlie, whose face was never seen on screen.
In 2011, ABC launched a new Charlie’s Angels series, but the show, following abysmal ratings and negative reviews, was cancelled after only four episodes.
Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore played the angels in two feature films, released in 2000 and 2003 respectively, in an attempt to revive the franchise.
