New Show To Bring Fresh Twist To Dracula’s Enemy
Kelly Overton, a former regular on vampire drama True Blood, is staying on the land of the undead. Word now comes, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter (Via Yahoo), that Overton will play the title character in Vanessa Helsing, Syfy’s new twist on the Van Helsing mythology.
As the title of the show – produced by Nomadic Pictures – suggests, Dracula’s arch nemesis has been transformed into a female. Her story unfolds in the aftermath of the Rising – a complete vampire take over of the world.
Other characters include Axel (Jonathan Scarfe), a marine who has endured years of vampire attacks, and Dimitri (Paul Johansson) – the leader of the fanged masses.
Survivors of the Rising include Sam (Christopher Heyerdahl), who remains alive through his observational skills and strength, and John (David Cubitt), a man who is wrapped in an aura of prejudice and fear.
The first season – comprising of thirteen episodes – starts production next week. Directors include Amada Tapping, Simon Barry and Jason Priestly. Neil Labutte takes on showrunner status.
Vanessa Helsing is currently slated for a Fall debut.
