Weaver To Return For “Avatar” Sequels
Even though she died in Avatar, James
Cameron, who directed the 2009 box office hit, is bringing Sigourney Weaver back, albeit in a different role, for his three sequels.
In a statement, Cameron, who directed Weaver in 1985’s Aliens, said:
“We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the ‘Avatar’ sequels.”
Cameron also said the actress will play a more challenging character in the Avatar adventures.
“We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration,”
The Avatar chapters will be filmed back to back. December 2016 is the release date if of the first sequel, while the remaining two instalments will be released at the end of 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Cameron and Jon Landau will produce the films through their company Lightstorm Entertainment.
